Azure Kubernetes Service and its Industry use cases

What is Kubernetes?

Kubernetes is a open-source container based orchestration platform designed to automate the deployment, scaling, and management of containerized application. It allows developers and engineers to manage containerized workloads and services through both declarative configuration and automation.

Azure Kubernetes Service

Microsoft Azure provide cloud-based managed Kubernetes service called Azure Kubernetes Service(AKS) . Organizations use AKS to deploy, scale and manage Docker containers and container-based applications across a cluster of container hosts.

USECASES OF AKS:

  • An organization or a startup can use AKS to automate the migration of applications into containers, they can register the container with ACR, and then they can use AKS to launch container into a preconfigured environment.
    AKS can deploy, scale, manage diverse groups of containers, which helps for launch of micro-services based application.
  • A developer can place a new container built into a repository, move those builds into ACR, and then AKS will launch the workload into operational containers.
  • AKS can be used in IOT projects. AKS can help ensure adequate compute for big data tasks, such as model training in machine learning (ML) environments.
  • AKS is ideal for implementation of DevOps and Kubernetes together. The development processes are secure with the use of CI/CD supported by dynamic policy controls.
  • Azure pipelines can help in faster delivery alongside compliance with critical policies specified by Azure. Microsoft Azure also gives features for observing the build and release pipelines in real-time and features for easy application of compliance audit and reconfigurations.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF KUBERNETES:

  • AKS automatically configures all Kubernetes masters and nodes during the deployment process, and handles a range of other tasks, including Azure Active Directory integration, connections to monitoring services and configuring advanced networking features, such as HTTP application routing.
  • Microsoft handles all Kubernetes upgrades for the service, as new versions become available, users can decide when to upgrade the version.
  • Users can scale up and down the AKS according to the resource demand. AKS also supports node pools enabled by graphics processing units.
  • Users can access AKS via AKS management portal, AKS command-line interface or using templates through tools such as Azure Resource Manager.
